MIGHTY MEDIC is a medical device. It is intended for inhalation of cannabinoids, the active ingredients from medicinal cannabis. MIGHTY MEDIC is intended for vaporisation of cannabinoids from dried, milled cannabis flowers only. Administering cannabinoids via a vaporiser ensures a faster onset of effect, compared to ingestion. Depending on the density, the vapor could irritate respiratory tract or lungs, which can lead to coughing. These devices are not intended for use in children and youth under 18 years old, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Limitations MIGHT MEDIC: active lung force is necessary to inhale the vapor: it can only be used with dried cannabis flowers; for hygiene reasons, it cannot be shared in between patients. Currently there are no registered medicinal cannabis flowers/dry products in New Zealand.
The Mighty Medic is registered as a medical device with the Ministry of Health. This means they are legal to import and own similar to other medical devices such as an insulin pump or a nebulizer. Some purchasers have managed to claim partial cost of their device from their health insurance provider.
To gain the medical device classificationn, the Storz & Bickel medical device range is manufactured to meet a higher quality standard than the regular Storz & Bickel dry herb vaporisers meaning they are extremely safe to use and boast an operating life of 2-5 years.
Vaporising cannabis with a Storz & Bickel medical device increases the bioavailability of the cannabanoids when compared to smoking. When using the Mighty Medic, up to 95% of the cannabanoids in the dried herb are made available in the vapor, with 30% of these making it into the bloodstream.
Vaporisation occurs at a much lower temperature to smoking. the Mighty Medic heats cannabis flowers or oils at temperatures low enough to melt fatty cannabis resins and ouls without burning the plant material. Once melred, these resins teansform from their solid form to a type of steam. This steam is the vapor you exhale after using the vaporise. The cooling unit on the Mighty Medic allows the vapor to cool even further before reaching your lungs.
The Mighty Medic eatures a digital temperature controller meaning you can set the temperature to target a specific cannabanoids and terpenes, allowing you to access the varying benefits and lavours. Vaporising at lower temperatures (170°C) allows you to active the CBD in the medicinal cannabis without a strong psychoactive effect, while vaporising at higher termperatures (210°C) will activate the TBC for a stronger psychoactive effect.
Under the medicinal cannabis legistlation in New Zealand, medicinal cannabis can not be prescribed or the purpose of smoking. Most medicinal cannabis flower are available in New Zealand is intended for vaporisation.
